such that there are rules to legally dissolve a marriage? In fact, the truth is that legally you have basically the same rights and privileges when you leave a cheating boyfriend that you do when you leave a home you were sharing with a simple room mate.

Things Still Can Become Complicated

The problem is with far too many unmarried couples is that while they are in love and “hot all over each other” they can tend to develop financial entanglements that can come back to haunt them when the love goes “bust”. Joint bank accounts, shared lease agreements and vehicles and goods that one may have co signed on a loan for are usually the most common.

If you have cosigned on a loan on a boyfriends vehicle then your name will be on the title. He may have registered it in his name but a registration is only a document that is required to make it legal to drive on the roads. The title is what determines who actually owns the vehicle.

Go Take the Vehicle You Have Cosigned For If He Has Missed Even One Payment

You have the right to seize the vehicle and take possession of it and then he will have to take you to court to get it back. If he has missed any payments then you have the right to sell the vehicle to pay off the loan, because he has in effect violated the terms of the contract.

Take the Money and Run!!

In the case of joint bank accounts you have th right to take any and all money that is in any joint accounts if your name is on the account. If the money was deposited by him and he can prove it, he can then take you to small claims court to attempt to retrieve it.

Shared Lease Agreements Can Be Sticky

If you share a lease on a home or apartment and you are preparing to leave a cheating boyfriend then you are going to have to decide who stays and who goes. It will usually come down to who can afford to pay the rent on their own. If he is being stupid, won’t leave and can’t afford to pay the rent then you are in a real jam, because technically you have no legal grounds to evict him.
